It's time for our quick look back at the week in career advice -- five job-related (and job-search-related) that we want to highlight:
5. Today's unemployment report from the U.S. Department of Labor may have been less than ideal, but Monster research has uncovered many cities where the picture is a lot rosier. Is your city one of them? Read MarketWatch.com's "Top 10 Cities in the U.S. to Find a Job."
4. So, those are the cities that seem to be in good shape -- but which professions have long-term potential? For some ideas, check out "In the Year 2016: The 30 Fastest-Growing Jobs."
3. Knowing where to look for work is important, but once you've located the job you want, you're going to need interview skills. For tips, read Yahoo! Shine's "5 Toughest Interview Questions (& How to Answer Them)."
2. Once you land that great job and have had it for a while, how can you tell whether your career still has forward momentum -- and what do you do if it needs a jump-start? For tips, read "11 Warning Signs Your Career Has Stalled."
1. Now, before you get set to enjoy a nice summer weekend, read the great advice in this U.S. News article: "9 Ways to Use Summer to Your Career Advantage."

On Fridays, we take a look back at the week that was, and show you five cool career-advice articles you may have missed.
5. We have to share this New York Times article about putting your job search in the palm of your hand -- with the right mobile devices (and not just because it features a glowing review of Monster.com's Interviews app). Read "Searching for a Job? Try Looking at Your Handheld First."
4. This story, from Monster.com's Advice section, made the Yahoo! homepage on Wednesday -- and it's advice that may just save your career. Read "Top 10 Ways to Get Fired."
3. And career expert Penelope Trunk has advice for you if you've left a job of your own accord. Read "How to Quit Every Job and Still Have a Good Resume."
2. The job interview has always been a crucial part of the hiring process. But in today's intensely competitive labor market, it couldn't be more key. Read "New Rules for the Job Interview" (from Time.com's Curious Capitalist blog).
1. Finally, FoxBusiness.com has some interesting career advice to mull over this weekend: "Career Advice: Don't Do What You're Supposed To." Think about it -- and we'll see you on Monday.

Humor: Casual Fridays, Work Attire

Week 1 – Memo No. 1
Effective this week, the company is adopting Fridays as Casual Day. Employees are free to dress in the casual attire of their choice.
Week 3 – Memo No. 2
Spandex and leather micro-miniskirts are not appropriate attire for Casual Day. Neither are string ties, rodeo belt buckles or moccasins.
Week 6 – Memo No. 3
Casual Day refers to dress only, not attitude. When planning Friday’s wardrobe, remember image is a key to our success.
Week 8 – Memo No. 4
A seminar on how to dress for Casual Day will be held at 4 p.m. Friday in the cafeteria. A fashion show will follow. Attendance is mandatory.
Week 9 – Memo No. 5
As an outgrowth of Friday’s seminar, a 14-member Casual Day Task Force has been appointed to prepare guidelines for proper casual-day dress.
Week 14 – Memo No. 6
The Casual Day Task Force has now completed a 30-page manual entitled “Relaxing Dress Without Relaxing Company Standards.” A copy has been distributed to every employee. Please review the chapter “You Are What You Wear” and consult the “home casual” versus “business casual” checklist before leaving for work each Friday. If you have doubts about the appropriateness of an item of clothing, contact your CDTF representative before 7 a.m. on Friday.
Week 18 – Memo No. 7
Our Employee Assistant Plan (EAP) has now been expanded to provide support for psychological counseling for employees who may be having difficulty adjusting to Casual Day.
Week 20 – Memo No. 8
Due to budget cuts in the HR Department we are no longer able to effectively support or manage Casual Day. Casual Day will be discontinued, effective immediately.
NOTE – A colleague recently suggested that I write an article about casual dress for this blog as there seems to be a lack of clear guidelines in certain sectors.  Look for something soon.  In the meantime, please post a comment and let us know what you think about casual dress in the workplace – What is acceptable?  What is not acceptable?

It's the first Friday of the month, and that means that it's time for the monthly report from the U.S. Labor Department -- and, happily, the news continues to be good: although the unemployment rate remains high (slipping back up to 9 percent), small businesses are hiring at the highest rate in five years, and that has analysts predicting continuing improvement.
And according to new Monster.com surveys, people are feeling the optimism: in a recent poll, more than 80 percent said they were actively looking for a dream job.
We hope you're looking for your dream job (if you don't already have it!). To help, here are five cool career-advice articles from this week:
