Job seekers love to diss corporate recruiters. Why? Because corporate recruiters don't pay enough attention to job seekers. That's "enough" as defined by job seekers, of course.
Have you ever wondered why recruiters don't pay enough attention to job seekers? Talking with you is their job, isn't it?
Well, it could be that they're:
- Talking with hiring managers about any bit of the multi-step hiring process.
- Figuring out candidate sourcing strategies for their open specs.
- Designing and launching ad campaigns for their open specs.
- Reading resumes that their ATS "liked."
- Talking to IT about their crappy ATS.
- Interviewing candidates who came in via employee referrals.
- Interviewing other candidates who appear to match their open specs.
- Checking references.
- Negotiating offers.
- Writing offer letters.
- Arranging relocation’s for new hires.
- Arranging on boarding for new hires.
- Selecting, negotiating with, and supervising vendors and service providers.
- Playing buzzword bingo in very important meetings.
- Preparing and defending their key performance indicator reports.
And therein, beyond numbers 1 through 14 above and more, is the actual million dollar issue.
Do you know the Top Two Key Performance Indicators for most corporate recruiters? You won't believe it:
- Cost per hire.
- Time to fill.
Remember, management gets the behavior they measure. Thus, unless a corporate recruiter believes that you will somehow cut their "cost per hire" or "time to fill" numbers (see 6 and 7 above), good luck getting a meeting! They have a few other balls in the air.
